Orlando, FL. . Worldwide the city of Orlando is synonymous with words like holiday and vacation. It is afterall, visited by nearly 20 million people each year. Orlando is the home of the mouse. But it used to be the home to something else.
The mid 90's pop explosion which put acts like 'Nsync & Backstreet Boys on the map, started in Orlando, FL. Now in moving to Orlando nearly 5 years ago I realized something. At some point while being a native to Orlando, you are bound to run into a former pop star at some point.
I've made the acquaitance of Chris Kirkpatrick of 'Nsync, seen Nick Carter of Backstreet Boys fame behind the bar at a local watering hole, but this story is about the time I met Joey Fatone.
He was not only member of the boy group 'Nsync, but you may also remember him from finishing 2nd on Dancing With The Stars.
Joey was out one night having some drinks with friends, a few mutual, when I realized he was hanging with another 'famous' person. It took me a moment to place who he was hanging with, then it hit me. As you'll see in the photo, it was Alfonso Ribeiro. You might remember him as "Carlton" from Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.
To see Joey out is one thing, he's a local and it's not rare on a Saturday night to go out and spot him hanging with some friends. It's another to see Carlton and refrain from asking him to do the "Carlton dance."
Anyway a bunch of friends were hanging by the bar and a photo was taken with all of us. Alfonso was actually turning down requests to be in photos while Joey, who I guess is used to it by now, even in his home city...didn't seem to mind.
One of those kind of nights you call your high school friends and say, you'll never guess who I ran into.
